Fundraiser to
support Kamakana Playground repairs
The Friends of Higashihara Park in partnership with the Lions Club of Kona Community Foundation to host a fundraiser to repair and replace deteriorating wooden fencing and play equipment at Kamakana Park.
The wooden equipment has sustained damaged from years of exposure to the natural elements, and the push is on to preserve one of Hawaii Islands favorite playground and rest stop. For over 14 years, the Lions Club of Kona have been applying waterproofing to the wood in the playground area, but over time, the sun and the rain took its toll, so the club, with it’s foundation, decided to partner with the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation to adopt the park, and create the Friends of Higashihara Park.
The renovation efforts will take a considerable amount of money and resources, which the club is hoping the community, businesses, and other organizations will support.

Cultural Festival releases cookbook
The Kona Coffee Cultural Festival kicks off its 50th anniversary this fall with the launch of its new “Kona Coffee Cookbook — Recipes From Our Coffee Country Kitchens.”
The full-color cookbook is a collection of over 300 delicious recipes, featuring appetizers, salads, breads, entrees, and desserts. The extraordinary collection is a culmination of decades of recipes taken from prize-winning festival recipe contest winners and a wealth of sources including local homegrown recipes.
In addition to offering a delicious recipe selection for cooks of all kinds, “Kona Coffee Cookbook — Recipes From Our Coffee Country Kitchens” is filled with lots of useful information including Kona Coffee history, festival stories, sidebars and even tips.
“Kona Coffee Cookbook — Recipes From Our Coffee Country Kitchens” is available for purchase in hardcover online at www.konacoffeefest.com or in at select Kona retail outlets and at the Festival Pop Up retail spot located at 75-6000 Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona.
The state’s oldest food festival returns Nov. 4 to 7. A $5 Festival admission button is required for events and also gives special rates for ticketed events. Buttons are available for purchase online and at many retail and farm locations throughout the Kona area.
