The Big Island Wednesday added 64 new cases of COVID-19, pushing the island’s total case count to 7,698.
Statewide, 455 new cases were reported Wednesday, bringing the state’s total to 63,957 since late February 2020, according to the Department of Health.
According to the DOH, 10,911 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,860 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 858.4 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 132.7 cases per day.
Hawaii County Wednesday had a seven-day test positivity rate of 9.1%, above the state’s 7.9% positivity rate.
The island’s two most populous areas, Kailua-Kona and Hilo, have reported the most cases during the past 14 days at 444 and 513 cases, respectively.
On Wednesday, 75 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized on the Big Island. None of the island’s 24 ICU beds were available with 16 of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Eleven of those 16 COVID patients are on ventilators.
Thirteen new coronavirus-related deaths were reported Wednesday, four on Maui and nine on Oahu. Of the 602 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 464 were on Oahu, 73 were on Maui, 59 were on the Big Island and three on Kauai. Three deaths were among residents outside the state.
