The Big Island reported 89 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, pushing the island’s tally to 9,111 since late February 2020.
Hawaii health officials reported a total of 493 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the state’s case total to 73,268.
According to the DOH, 8,967 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,381 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 567.4 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 85 cases per day.
Hawaii County Wednesday had a seven-day test positivity rate of 7.%, above the state’s 6.7% positivity rate.
On Wednesday, 49 people with COVID-19 remained hospitalized on the Big Island. All of the island’s 24 ICU beds were in use with five overflow ICU bed also in use. Eleven of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Seven of those 11 COVID patients were on ventilators.
Eleven new coronavirus-related deaths were reported Wednesday. Of the 671 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 511 were on Oahu, 80 were in Maui County, 67 were on the Big Island and eight on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
