HONOLULU —A judge on Tuesday set a trial date next week for an Oahu lawmaker arrested after police saw her driving the wrong way down a major Honolulu thoroughfare in February.
State Rep. Sharon Har has pleaded not guilty to one count of driving under the influence and one count of driving without vehicle insurance. Her trial is due to begin on Monday.
The Democrat represents Kapolei and Makakilo in the state House. She also works as an attorney. She was first elected to the Legislature in 2006.
The officer who pulled Har over said saw her driving the wrong way down Beretania Street after 10 p.m. on Feb. 22.
Multiple officers at the scene said they smelled alcohol on her breath. They said Har had red glassy eyes and slurred speech.
Police said when officers adjusted Har’s handcuffs, she yelled that she was embarrassed, that her wrists hurt and that “Black Lives Matter.” A police arrest report identified her race as “Other Asian.”
Har asked arresting officers if they knew who she was. She told them she was going to be the next governor “but ‘this’ would mess up her plans.”
