Kailua Village Artists Gallery will feature professional watercolor artist,illustrator and designer Ken Geer for the month of June.
Ken Geer lives and works in Holualoa. He is inspired to paint and draw the coastal scenes, marine life, tropical flora and fauna of the diverse landscape of Hawaii and scenes depicting its culture.
Geer’s passion for creating art began at a young age with the encouragement of his family to pursue his interest in art and science. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Design from the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT.
Geer was hired as Nike’s first Industrial Design Manager and it was a life-changing experience. He developed a passion for designing and developing breakthrough footwear comfort technologies, performance technologies, and styling designs. He became one of the pioneers of the Industrial Design profession in the footwear industry and worked for leading global footwear brands. His footwear design career spanned more than 35 years and he is an inventor named on twenty-one U.S. patents directed to footwear structure and styling designs. Geer’s footwear design work
Upon retirement from the footwear industry and he moved to Hawaii to be near his son and young grandchildren. He started Ken Geer Art as an encore career to learn new skills, serve the Hawaiian community, and pursue his passion for creating artwork. He states “I am grateful to be able to live in Hawaii. Being allowed to create artwork of the beautiful tropical landscapes, seascapes, marine life, and rich traditions is an honor. I care deeply about nature and I try to capture the feeling of the spirit in the subjects. I am captivated by water – I am inspired by it and it is often an element of my art.”
