Thelma Parker Memorial Library hosts ‘Seeds of Knowledge’ community fair July 29, 2023
Learn about the amazing people and organizations of Waimea at Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library’s end-of summer reading challenge celebration! The Seeds of Knowledge Community Fair, a free family-friendly event, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, at the library in Waimea. All are invited.
In keeping with the Hawaii State Public Library System’s summer reading challenge theme, Seeds of Knowledge, friends and neighbors from the community will be on hand to share information about their work and lead a wide range of fun educational activities. There will be solar viewing, seed paper, water safety/ocean awareness, agriculture, cymbidium orchids, emergency preparedness, and watershed booths, along with plant and seed giveaways, chess, coloring, pressed flower bookmarks, UV light bead bracelets, free solar viewing glasses for the upcoming eclipses, and more.
Participating organizations include Alex &Duke De Rego Foundation, Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, Friends of Thelma Parker Memorial Library, Girl Scouts of Hawaii, Kahilu Theatre, Natural Resource Conservation Service &Mauna Kea Soil &Water Conservation District, Tutu’s House, UH-CTAHR’s Cooperative Extension, W.M. Keck Observatory, Waimea Arts Council, Waimea Community Association, Waimea Outdoor Circle, Waimea Preservation Association, Waimea Resilience Hub, Waimea Trails &Greenways, and West Hawaii Astronomy Club.
“We’re very excited to offer ‘seeds of knowledge’ about the wonderful resources available in our community,” said Pamela Akao, branch manager at Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library. “We thank all of our generous community friends and partners for their support and for making this event possible.”
The 2023 Seeds of Knowledge Summer Reading Challenge, which started June 1, is being offered at all 51 public libraries statewide and runs through July 31.
