The season will begin Oct. 22 2023, ending Dec. 17 2023.

Registration fee is $60, which includes a RBI shirt, visor and league insurance.

Players need to register individually, not as part of a team.

Skill training will include fielding, throwing, catching, pitching, base running, bunting and hitting. Controlled scrimmage games will be conducted, and will allow coaches to give players input on their offensive and defensive skills.

Coaching staff includes coaches from both Hilo and O‘ahu. Coaches from the Big Island are also welcomed to join the staff.

Guardians trade Civale to Tampa Bay Rays

The Cleveland Guardians have traded starting pitcher Aaron Civale to the Tampa Bay Rays for first base prospect Kyle Manzardo.

The Guardians announced the deal Monday, one day before the trade deadline.

Civale’s name has been thrown around in trade speculation for weeks, which has coincided with the right-hander pitching as well as he has in several seasons.

He posted a 1.45 ERA in six July starts. On Sunday, Civale pitched six scoreless innings in a win over the White Sox.

The move creates a bigger void in Cleveland’s starting rotation, but the Guardians felt it was worth it to get a player with Manzardo’s potential.

Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick injures left Achilles

Denver Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick was carted off the field with a left Achilles injury almost a year after he tore his right ACL at training camp.

The 29-year-old receiver was embarking on a comeback after missing all of last season.

The Broncos appear to be in better shape to withstand losing Patrick this season as they’ve beefed up their receiving room.

Samsonova defeats Collins at DC Open

Defending champion Liudmila Samsonova stretched her winning streak in Washington to six matches by beating 2022 Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins 6-1, 6-3 in the first round of the DC Open on Monday.

The eighth-seeded Samsonova saved both break points she faced while winning four of Collins’ service games. Collins hurt herself by double-faulting eight times.

Samsonova is a 24-year-old from Russia who is currently ranked 18th. Her trophy on the hard courts of the U.S. Open tune-up tournament a year ago was one of four singles titles she’s won.

In other women’s matches on Day 1 at the first combined ATP-WTA 500 event, sixth-seeded Belinda Bencic advanced when Anastasia Potapova retired from their match in the first set with an injured left ankle, and Marta Kostyuk eliminated 2019 U.S. Open champion Bianca Andreescu 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5).

In men’s action, Aslan Karatsev beat Kiranpal Pannu 7-6 (3), 6-1, Alexander Shevchenko defeated Maxime Cressy 6-3, 7-6 (8), Michael Mmoh beat Bradley Klahn 6-3, 6-3, and Yosuke Watanuki moved into the second round when Wu Yibing stopped playing because of illness.
