KAILUA-KONA — Several west-side girls volleyball teams competed all over the island this past weekend, with each match gaining more importance as playoffs inch closer.
Saturday
Kealakehe falls in straight sets
Kealakehe is still in search of its first win of the year, falling to Kea‘au 25-12, 25-18 and 25-16. The Waveriders fell to 0-8 on the season, while the Cougars elevated to 2-5 overall.
Kealakehe will next face Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i at 5 p.m. Wednesday at home. Kea‘au will travel over to Hilo to play the Vikings at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Honoka‘a vs. Parker rescheduled
Parker’s home match against Honoka‘a was reschduled to Monday, Oct. 9 due to several illnesses.
Friday
HPA handles business over Ka Umeke
Hawaii Prep beat Ka Umeke in straight sets at Hilo High — 25-6, 25-14 and 25-8.
With the win, Ka Makani moved to 8-1 and remained in second in BIIF Division II. Ka Umeke fell to 1-7 and remained toward the bottom of the conference.
HPA will travel to Honoka‘a at 5 p.m. tonight to take on the Dragons. Ka Umeke will host Kanu at 5 p.m. Wednesday at
Kawananakoa Gym.
Kohala sweeps Pahoa
The Daggers were swept on their home court Friday by the Cowgirls, who won in straight sets of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-15.
Now 6-2, Kohala rivals Parker school for the No. 4 BIIF DII standing. The Cowgirls’ toughest test lies ahead — facing No. 2 HPA (8-1) on the road Thursday.
Now 5-4, Pahoa has maintained its No. 6 standing, but is now tied with Honoka‘a — which it beat last week.
The Daggers will have a chance to claw their way up the standings 5 p.m. Tuesday at home, when they will play against Parker.
