Kona Library to close
for repairs Oct. 14
The Kailua-Kona Public Library will temporarily close to replace the air conditioning system beginning Saturday, Oct. 14. The last day for all library services at the Kailua-Kona branch will be Friday, Oct. 13.
Library patrons may pick up their requests at the Kailua-Kona Public Library up to Oct. 9.
The bookdrop will close at 4 p.m. on Oct. 13 and will remain locked for the duration of the repair project. Borrowed items may be returned to any other public library during the closure.
During the temporary closure, patrons are invited to visit the two closest libraries, Kealakekua Public Library (81-6619 Mamalahoa Hwy., phone (808) 323-7585) or Thelma Parker Memorial Public and School Library (67-1209 Mamalahoa Hwy., phone (808) 887-6067).
At this time, the air conditioning replacement project is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2023. Updates will be posted on Kailua-Kona Public Library’s web page at: librarieshawaii.org/branch/kailua-kona-public-library/
Brain injury support
group meeting Oct. 11
Dr. Amy Kemp, a speech language pathologist, will giving a talk about “Understanding and Managing Neurobiological Classifications of Cognitive-Communication Deficits after TBI” at the next meeting of the Kona Brain Injury Support Group. The meeting starts at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11. There are two ways to join the meeting. One option is via zoom.com with the meeting ID: 808 274 6477. Or you may join in person at Anderson Wealth, at 75-100 Henry St., Suite 200. This is the same building as Planet Fitness.
Dr. Kemp will talk about how location and severity of a traumatic brain injury (TBI) can impact behavior and/or cognitive function. This talk will provide information on anatomy and physiology related to TBI broadly, but narrow in on cognitive fatigue as a result of TBI.
