Kona woman places second at Pan American Games
Jennifer Kalmbach, a Kailua-Kona resident and avid stand-up paddle-boarder, placed second in the women’s race at the Pan American Games on Oct. 30 in Punta de Lobos, Argentina.
Kalmbach, 40, represented her home country of Costa Rica and raced in 15:47.08.
The silver-winning paddler is no stranger to the SUP scene. In 2011, Kalmbach was voted Stand Up Paddler of the Year by sport magazine readers. She has competed in 40 similar events in her career.
Konawaena to clash with Kapaa in state semis
Following Kapaa football’s 29-28 victory over Lahainaluna last weekend, Konawaena will officially face the Warriors in the HHSAA Division I Football Semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Julian R. Yates Field.
The Wildcats are back in the semifinals for the third straight season and will aim to reach the state championship for the second consecutive year.
Honma named to All-Tournament Team
Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i’ senior Maela Honma was the sole Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) player named to the New City Nissan/HHSAA Girls Volleyball Championships All-Tournament Team on Oahu last week.
Honma played an instrumental role in the Warriors’ third-place finish in the Division I bracket, collecting 47 kills and 32 digs across three games.
