KEALAKEKUA — Sometimes, hard-fought matches from both teams need to end in a draw.
That’s exactly what happened on a humid Saturday afternoon in Kealakekua over the weekend. Konawaena girls soccer tied with Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i by a score of 0-0.
While both teams displayed valiant efforts of pushing the pace and attempting shots, the ball just couldn’t find its way between the posts.
The Wildcats (0-1-1) will enjoy the week off before heading to the northern part of town to play local rival Kealakehe at 2 p.m. Saturday at Waverider Stadium. The Warriors (1-0-1) will return home to play Honoka‘a at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Kea‘au.
In the boys game, Konawaena was routed 7-0 in its season opener. KSH’s William Henderson, Lucas Kay-Wong and Iopa Quintana and two goals apiece, while Jared Galapir had one of his own.
Like the girls team, the Wildcats boys (0-1-0) will face Kealakehe at 4 p.m. Saturday at Waverider Stadium. The Warriors (2-0-0), similiarly to the girls team, will host Honoka‘a at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Kea‘au.
HPA swept by Hilo
Hawaii Prep boys and girls soccer sqaured off against Hilo on Saturday in Waimea, with the Vikings winning both matches.
The Warriors’ girls routed Ka Makani in the first match of the afternoon by a score of 8-0. Kryslynn Nabarro secured a hat trick in the goal department, while teammates Maiya Kepoo-DeConte and Aneala Sibayan scored two apiece. HPA additionally scored on its own goal.
In the boys match, Hilo won 3-1.
HPA girls (1-2-0) will next play 2 p.m. Friday at Waiakea to take on the Warriors. Hilo (3-0-0) will travel to Kea‘au to play the Cougars at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Ka Makani boys (1-2-0) won’t play until Jan. 6, where it will host Makua Lani in Waimea. The Vikings (2-0-0) will host Kea‘au at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Hilo.
Bulls, Dragons draw
Parker boys soccer visted Honoka‘a on Saturday afternoon, tying with the Dragons by a score of 1-1.
The Bulls (0-3-1) next play Jan. 5, where they will travel to Waiakea to duel with the Warriors. The Dragons (0-0-1) will face KSH at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Kea‘au.
