KEALAKEHE — Kealakehe girls basketball struggled against Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i on Wednesday night in Kailua-Kona — falling to the Warriors 71-4.
KSH was firing on all cylinders with its motion offense and aggressive defense, forcing a multitude of Waverider turnovers which led to easy baskets — only adding to its near 65-points-per-game average. Kealakehe scored just two points in each half.
The Waveriders (1-3 overall) will attempt to redeem themselves against Ka‘u at 6 p.m. Saturday in Kailua-Kona. The Warriors (6-4 overall, 4-0 BIIF) will continue their undefeated BIIF season against Hilo at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Kea‘au.
KOHALA 52, KEA‘AU 21
The Cowgirls established dominance from the beginning, holding the Cougars to less than nine points per quarter to notch a road win Tuesday night at Kea‘au HS.
Kohala outscored Kea‘au 17-4 in the first quarter, 12-8 in the second and 17-2 in the third. The Cougars finally got a leg up in the fourth frame, narrowly outscoring the Cowgirls 7-6 — but it was not nearly enough to make a difference.
Kohala was led by Mahea Pang with 12 points, and Kea‘au was led by Tiani Kaupu with seven.
Now 3-1 in regular season BIIF play (2-0 DII), the Cowgirls will return to Puna on Saturday for a 6 p.m. matchup against Christian Liberty Academy.
Kea‘au (2-2 BIIF) will next face DI juggernaut Konawaena High (4-0 BIIF, 10-2 ovr.) on Dec. 20 at home.
JV score: Kohala wins 34-13. Top scorers: Loryn-Rose Caravalho (Kohala) 11 points, Kaleilani Ancheta-Demello (Kohala) ten points and Keahialoa Kelly (Keaau) seven points.
HONOKA‘A 34, PAHOA 19
The Dragons’ girls varsity squad advanced their record to 2-2, defeating the Daggers on Tuesday night in Pahoa.
Honoka‘a was led by Rylee Velazquez with 14 points and Ilima Napoleon with 11 points. Pahoa’s top scorers were Jaylynn Kaawaloa-Alidon with nine points and Teysia Tai with six points.
Honoka‘a will return to action next week, hosting Waiakea High (6-1 BIIF, 10-3 ovr.) on Dec. 21.
Pahoa (0-3) will look to get in the win collumn on Dec. 27, when the Daggers host Hilo.
HILO 40, CLA 17
The Vikings notched their first win of the season, defeating homestanding Christian Liberty Academy on Tuesday night in Kea‘au.
Hilo was led by the scoring of Stephanie Hirawotori with 14 points and Malia Simram’s ten points.
Shiloh Glenn led the Canefire with eight points.
The Vikings moved to 1-2 in BIIF play and 1-4 overall. Their next outing will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at KS-Hawai‘i.
CLA fell to 0-4, and will also be back in action on Saturday (6 p.m.), hosting Kohala High.
