WAIPAHU, O‘ahu — The Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) Division I and Division II girls soccer state championship quarterfinals were played Thursday evening at Waipi‘o Soccer Complex.
It was a tough day for all BIIF teams except for KS-Hawai‘i. The Warriors won their matchup while Hilo High, Waiakea High and Hawaii Prep suffered losses.
Hawaii Prep
Ka Makani was routed 4-0 by No. 4 seed PAC-5, and will fall into the DII consolation bracket. Its first consolation match takes place today against Leilehua.
HPA is now 1-1 in the tourney, as it blanked Seabury Hall 4-0 in the first round on Wednesday. Nina Cipriano, Nohea Lansdale, Kirra Gessey and Madie Buczyna notched goals for against the Spartans for HPA.
KS-Hawai‘i
The No. 2-seeded Warriors fought their way into DII’s final four, crushing Kauai’s Waimea High 3-0.
Alohi Marquin-Kalaola, Rebekah Sipinga and Mia Chow each scored a goal during Thursday’s matchup.
Today, KSH will face off against unseeded Kapa‘a High — which upset No. 3 Kalani High 2-0. In the other semifinal matchup, PAC-5 will take on No. 1 Kauai High. Teams that lose in the semifinals will face off in the third-place consolation match.
Hilo
The Vikings fell 2-0 to Mililani High in the DI quarterfinal.
The BIIF DI champions will enter the fifth-place consolation bracket, playing against Baldwin High today.
Waiakea
The BIIF DI runners-up also suffered a loss, falling 2-1 to No. 2 seed Campbell High.
The Warriors will play today against KS-Maui in the fifth-place consolation bracket. If both Waiakea and Hilo win today, they will meet again in the fifth place match on Saturday.
Ailani Franklin scored Waiakea’s only goal.
In the DI semifinals, Campbell will play KS-Kapalama and Punahou will take on Mililani.
Boys brackets
Brackets for the HHSAA DI and DII boys soccer state championships were released Wednesday night, following the conclusion of the Central Pacific Bank/BIIF championships.
BIIF DII champion KS-Hawai‘i received the No. 1 seed in the DII state bracket, putting the Warriors in good position to chase a state title three-peat.
KSH is paired up against unseeded Leilehua High, which placed third in the OIA DII playoffs. The pair’s matchup will kick off at 3 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 8) at the Waipi‘o Soccer Complex on O‘ahu.
HPA, which fell to KSH in the BIIF DII title match, will play against No. 3 seed Island School — champion of the Kauai Interscholastic Federation — also kicking off Thursday afternoon at Waipi‘o.
The other two DII matchups are No. 2 PAC-5 versus Waipahu High and No. 4 Seabury Hall versus No. 5 Castle.
In DI, BIIF champ Waiakea High received the No. 3 seed and a first-round bye. The Warriors will play their quarterfinal game on Thursday afternoon at Waipi‘o against the winner of a matchup between Punahou School and Kailua High.
BIIF DI runner-up Kealakehe will host its first-round game, which will kick off 3 p.m. Monday at Kealakehe High. The Waveriders will play against Kapolei High.
‘Iolani School received the No. 1 seed in DI, Mililani High is No. 2 and Baldwin is No. 4.
Other first-round DI matchups include Kekaulike versus Pearl City (winner plays Mililani) and Cambell versus Kalani (winner plays ‘Iolani).
