Another BIIF track and field meet was held this past weekend at Kamehameha-Hawaii’s campus, and several newer faces took the podium for the first time this season.
One of those athletes was St. Joseph senior Michaela Costales, who took home victories in the girls 110-meter hurdles (17.50s) and 300-meter hurdles (51.33s) — both season-best times.
Waiakea senior Raiyan Rahman did the same thing in the boys hurdles — winning the 110 (18.39s) and 300-meter hurdle races (44.43s) for the first time this season. Rahman came close to winning a few times, but couldn’t get over the hump until Saturday. His 110 time was a personal-best mark.
In the sprints, Kealekehe senior Mia Thennes won the girls 100 and 200-meter dashes in personal-best times — 12.74 and 26.30 seconds, respectively. Thennes had finished second or third in the finals of both races this season.
Kea‘au senior Kayzahlyn Mendoza-Sua won her first individual event this season in the girls 400, crossing the finish line at the 1:05.12 mark, which was her personal-best time.
Waiakea sophomore Liko Godinez-Morrison won his first individual event of his early high school career, clinching first in the boys 200-meter dash in a personal-best 22.81 seconds. It was the first time Godinez-Morrison ran the race in under 23 seconds.
But some of the usual suspects took home individual victories in the running events, such as long-distance legend Jack Soon-Ludes of HPA — who took home wins in the boys 400 (52.84s), 800 (2:06.53), and 1,500 (4:23.04). The junior has won 10 individual races in 2026.
Zadie Bolton of Kealakehe also had a great day on the track, as the sophomore won the girls 1500 in a season-best 4:57.75 and the girls 3,000-meter race in 11:00.90. Bolton has won nine races on her own this season.
In the relays, Hilo took home the most hardware — collecting wins in the boys 4×100-meter (44.42s) and girls 4×100-meter races (52.27s) and the boys 4×400 (3:39.69) and girls 4×400 (4:23.77).
In the field events, Kohala junior Mari Ontiveros won the girls discus throw with a personal-best 34.36-meter mark (112-09) and the girls shot put (11.89 meters). Between the two events, Ontiveros has won nine times in 2026.
Hilo senior Kekoa Nakooka won his first event since last season, winning gold in the boys discus with a 43.86-meter throw (143-11). Nakooka finished the event in second in the three other times he competed this season.
Kohala 10th grader Nai Rivera won the boys high jump for the third time this season, finishing with a personal-best launch of 1.82 meters (6-00.00). Rivera has not placed lower than second in the event in 2026.
In the long jump, Kanu o ka ‘Aina freshman phenom Zenity Murray-Thorton won the girls field for the third time in her early secondary career — leaping 4.39 meters (14-05.00). Over in the boys contest, Ka‘u 12th grader Isaiah Manilla-Loius won the long jump for the first time in his career (5.96 meters) after finishing second multiple times since his freshman campaign.
Rounding out the headlined field winners were Kealakehe sophomore Ia Pabre and sophomore Aaron Salai of Waiakea winning the triple jumps. Both have collected previous wins in the event this season.
