Big Island Chocolate Festival names winners
BICF seeks 2018 beneficiaries
The 7th annual Big Island Chocolate Festival invites nonprofit organizations to apply as a beneficiary of the April 2018 event to be held at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. The festival annually awards nonprofits a portion of event proceeds. Last year $17,500 was given to four beneficiaries.

Celebrating plumeria on Lei Day
Plumeria trees grace many landscapes in Hawaii and their fragrant flowers are associated with Hawaii more than any other blossom. Though not native to Hawaii, plumeria trees are rather ubiquitous here and are sometimes referred to as the “backyard flower.” Many of us have them in our gardens and use the flowers to create lei for special occasions.

When we were seeking a pastry instructor in 2004 to elevate the curriculum at Hawaii Community College — Palamanui, the first person that came to my mind was Chef Fernand Guiot.
