Dead dolphin recovered from Kealakekua Bay

KAILUA-KONA — A dead dolphin was recovered Monday afternoon from Kealakekua Bay.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources told West Hawaii Today that a West Hawaii-based Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement responded to a 2 p.m. call from a tourist who reported seeing a dead dolphin at the north end of Napoopoo beach, before the pali, or cliff.

DLNR said it then contacted the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration stranded dolphin volunteer, who came down and recovered a full size dolphin.

At the time, some present said they had seen a shark.

The officer did not see any sharks while there, but advised other people on the beach and kayak companies that a shark had been seen.
