The National Weather Service in Honolulu has a flash flood warning for Hawaii Island effective until at least 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
At 6:18 p.m., radar showed heavy rain near Honokaa, according to forecasters, who noted the area of rain was nearly stationary. The service also included Waipio Valley in the flash flood warning.
The service cautioned that runoff from the storm may cause rock and mudslides in steep terrain.
A flash flood warning means that flash flooding is imment or occurring in streams, roads and low-lying areas. The service advises people in this types of areas to move to higher ground. Do not cross fast-flowing or rising water in a vehicle on on foot.
