A flood advisory has been issued for Hawaii Island until 8:45 a.m. Sunday.
A 5:30 a.m., radar showed a nearly stationary area of heavy rain located about 8 miles west of Waipio Valley, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters also noted the following areas in the advisory: Upolu Airport, Hawi and Mahukona in North Kohala and Honokaa in Hamakua.
The public is advised to stay away from drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions because of ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast-flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
The advisory may extended beyond 11:45 p.m. if the heavy rain persists, according to forecasters.
