A high surf advisory has been posted for the Big Island’s north-facing shores through noon Tuesday.
The surf is forecast to range in height from 10 to 15 feet along north-facing shores of the island’s northern and eastern coasts, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu. Sets could reach 18 feet along the shores.
The service categorized the surf’s impact as “moderate,” noting that the public should expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents that can make swimming difficult and dangerous. Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers are urged to heed all advice given by ocean safety officials.
