Ricardo Agpalza


Ricardo Derasin Agpalza, 67, of Hilo, died Sept. 10, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 21, 1954, in Hilo, he was a retired production supervisor for Hawaii Electric Light Co.

He is survived by sons, Jason (Michelle) Agpalza of Virginia and Jeremy (Jennifer) Agpalza of Keaau; daughters, Rochelle (Keven) Lee of Las Vegas and Renee (Patrick) Lawrence of Honomu; sister, Alberta (Wayne) Babchuk of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

Alan Gallap

Alan Gallap, 54, of Laupahoehoe, died Sept. 7, 2021 at Hilo Medical Center. He was born Nov. 16, 1966, in Hilo.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by brothers, Christopher (Lynn) Gallap and Jeremy Gallap of Laupahoehoe; and numerous aunts and cousins.

Charles Haselden

Charles Ronald Haselden, 74, of Keaau, died Sept. 7 at the Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Williamsburg, S.C. and was a professional chef.

He is survived by son, Charles Haselden Jr. of Oregon; daughters, Heather Wilkening of Puna and Georgeana Ireland of California; brothers, John Haselden of Keaau and Robert Haselden of Oregon; sister, Margaret Christensen of Keaau; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Glenn Gravela Sr.

Glenn Anthony Gravela Sr., 70, of Na’alehu, died Sept. 3, 2021, at his residence. Born in Pahala, he was a former Alarm Services Technician, a welder by trade, and a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by son, Glenn Gravela Jr. of Na’alehu; daughter, Kimberly (Miguel) Cabrera of Na’alehu; brothers, PrudencioGravela of Na’alehu, Leslie (Nardita) of Pahala, Francis (Carol Kekauoha) Gravela of Hilo, and Lawrence (Tracy) Gravela of Kea’au; sisters, Mary Peralta of Pahala, Eleanor (James) Talich of Kwajelin, Frieda Mae Lee of Hilo, Salome Horiuchi of Hilo, Lourdes (Steve) Kornelson of Georgia, Milissa (Felix) Ibarra of Waiohinu, Bernice (Christian) Behle of Hilo, and Elizabeth (Catalino) Alcordo of Mililani, Oahu; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Merrill Grotenhuis

Merrill C. Grotenhuis, 92, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 23, 2021 at Life Care Center of Kona. Born April 14, 1929, in Presho, South Dakota, he was a contractor/builder and a U.S. Navy veteran.

He is survived by daughters, Angela Stephens of Kailua-Kona and Elizabeth (Ian) Franklin of California; sister, Lola Austin of California; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Carol Dinmore

Carol Milene Dinmore, 76, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 10, 2021, at her residence. Born Dec. 2, 1944, in Long Beach, California, she was a nurse practitioner with Kaiser Permanente.
