Teens represent Hawaii at world’s largest rodeo

Twenty-two high school contestants from the state of Hawaii traveled to Gillette, Wyoming to compete in the world’s largest competition, National High School Finals Rodeo, July 17-23.

Twenty-two high school contestants from the state of Hawaii traveled to Gillette, Wyoming to compete in the world’s largest competition, National High School Finals Rodeo, July 17-23.

All of the students are members of Hawaii High School Rodeo Association.

In the Team Roping Event, Jonah Menino from Kurtistown and Levi Higa from Honokaa placed 15th overall in the world. Rex “Bubu” Kamakana from Kaunakakai and Ethan Awa from Holualoa placed 3rd in their performance with a fast time on 6.62 seconds.

Patricia Rincon, who graduated from Honokaa High School in May, won the Girls Cutting Event with a score of 145 and received a prize. Paris Starn from Honolulu placed 15th overall in the world in the Queen Contest.
