HCFCU donates
$24K to Hope Services Hawaii
Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union (HCFCU) raised $24,281 for Hope Services Hawaii, Inc. during HCFCU’s annual “Market Days” events. Market Days occur every October in honor of International Credit Union Week. Event sponsor Cal-Kona Produce provided fruits and vegetables, local businesses donated silent auction items, and shoppers found great buys on baked goods, clothing, jewelry, crafts, and more. Participating vendors donated 20 percent of their sales to the cause. HCFCU employees also held work lunch fundraisers and sold ribbons to raise additional money.

Enjoy the best turkey (or ham, pork butt, ulu, uala or kalo) ever and support the Maona Community Garden. Turkey pastele and ulu available as well. $20 reservation required by Saturday.
Preparation Instructions:
· Maximum weight of 20 lbs
· Completely thawed
· Remove bag of giblets
· Do not stuff your turkey
· Season according to your taste
Wrap food items well in 2 layers of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Place in a foil pan — no oversized pans, your pan must fit your package. Drop off Sunday at 4 p.m. to Maona Community Garden. Early drop-offs can be accommodated with advance notice, all early drop-offs must be labeled in a cooler with ice. Pick up Christmas Eve, Monday, 8-10 a.m.

Fireworks permits available
Fireworks permits will be available starting Wednesday for New Year’s celebrations. Each permit costs $25 and entitles the holder to purchase 5,000 individual firecrackers. They will be available at the following West Hawaii locations:
• Parker Ranch Shopping Center Food Court, Kamuela, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 26-31.
• KTA Kona, Kona Coast Shopping Center, 74-5594 Palani Road, Kailua-Kona
• Pacific Fireworks, 75-1022 Henry St., Kailua-Kona
• Phantom Tent Kona, 74-5454 Makala Blvd., Kailua-Kona
• Permits will also be available Dec. 26-28 at the Kona Fire Prevention Office, West Hawaii Civic Center, 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway Bldg E second floor, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Ohana Health
Plan donates
to Food Basket
Ohana Health Plan’s 260 employees on Oahu, Hawaii Island, Maui, Kauai and Molokai rallied together in the spirit of giving, collecting and donating more than 5,600 pounds of food and beverages to The Food Basket, Hawaii’s only food bank.
During the month-long food drive, employees participated in the “Amazing Ohana Race” and the “10 for 10 Challenge” to encourage employees to make a difference 1 pound at a time. Of the more than 5,600 pounds collected, Ohana Health Plan’s Hawaii Island employees, who make up 10 percent of the company’s total number of employees, accounted for 21 percent of the total collected. The more than 1,190 pounds of food contributed by these employees was given to The Food Basket.
